Daylight Music Productions (DMP) was founded in 2011 with a mission to help young musicians, composers and songwriters find their feet in the music industry and launch their careers. To aid this mission, DMP created a pioneering Creative Apprenticeship programme resulting in a sector council award by Creative & Cultural Skills in 2012

Between 2015 and 2017, DMP extended its Creative Apprenticeship work through another pioneering UK Gov’t Employer Ownership of Skills contract with partner organisation Academy of Music & Sound (AMS) and the Music Industries Association (MIA)

Kevin Harding and Phil Johnstone (Robert Plant, The Levellers, Alannah Miles) at the Studio 54 Exeter launch in 2018

In 2018, DMP refurbished the 3rd floor at 54 High Street in Exeter, purchased the ex AC/DC studio fixtures and fittings and relocated them to the now Studio 54 Exeter. We purchased state of the art studio equipment and utilise local respected and renowned studio engineers for recording and named the studio The Phil Johnstone Suite. Phil’s son Alex and Patter Pusher band member Ben Green work at the studio teaching and engineering.

In 2020 DMP invested in 4k digital video technology and established a media suite on the 2nd floor to work with some great young movie makers and videographers who have received international acclaim for their work and now offer their services at our DMP Exeter centre

In 2021, DMP co-produced a library music album ‘Classical Inspirations’ composed by Kevin Harding & Paul Reeeves. The album was recorded in Budapest with a string orchestra and soloist guitar, piano french horn, flute, cello and violin overdubs and released through Universal Music’s Volta label.

In 2022, DMP plan to launch the first ever European Fingerstyle Collective Guitar Festival with Fretmonkey & Candyrat Records. The event is planned to be held at The Phoenix Arts Centre in Exeter with artists including Antonio Forcione (Italy), Tristan Seume, Karlijn Langedijk (Netherlands), Thomas Leeb (Austria), Eva Atmatzidou (Greece), Sandro Norton (Portugal), Rodney Branigan (USA), Will McNicol (UK), Kimwei (UK), Blake Goodwin (USA) and Kevin Harding (UK).
